Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In mixer beat together 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar and 3/4 cups shortening.
Add, 2 slightly beaten eggs, 1 tsp finely shredded lemon peel and 1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice. Add and mix
well 2/3 cup sour cream, 2 1/2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon soda, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt
and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. After this has been mixed well , add 2/3 cup chopped walnuts. Drop by well rounded
teaspoons about two inches apart onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges
are lightly browned. Remove from oven and cool and frost with Browned Butter Frosting. Then top each cookie
with a walnut half.
Browned Butter Frosting:
In small saucepan heat 3 Tablespoons of Butter until browned. Remove from heat, slowly beat in 2 cups
sifted powdered sugar, 2 Tablespoons Milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth and creamy.
