Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8-inch square pan. Mix and sift flour, baking powder and salt.
Melt chocolate and butter together. Beat eggs, add sugar gradually, stirring constantly. Add chocolate
mixture and vanilla; beat hard 1 minute. Add sifted dry ingredients and blend well. Add broken nuts, stir
to mix well. Turn into pan. Bake 35 minutes or until top is dry. Cool. Spread with Bittersweet Frosting,
sprinkle with chopped nuts. When set, cut into bars 4 x 1 inches. Makes 16 bars.
Bittersweet Frosting:
Melt 2 squares unsweetened chocolate in the top of a double boiler, over hot water. Combine 1/4 cup sugar
and 3 tablespoons water in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves, then boil 1 minute.
Pour slowly into chocolate, stirring constantly. Beat until thick. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and blend
well before spreading over baked bars.
