Coconut Cake 6 Layers

2 1/2 cup (1 1/4 cup) sugar
2 1/2 cup (1 1/4 cup ) sweet milk
2 cups ( 1 cup) butter
2 tsp. ( 1 tsp ) baking powder
6 (3) eggs use yolks in batter,
save whites for filling
1 tsp. (1/2 tsp.) salt
1 1/2 (3/4 tsp.) vanilla
Flour ( enough to make smooth runny batter)

Filling:
6 (3) egg whites
1 cup (1/2 cup) buttermilk
2 cups ( 1 cup ) coconut
1 1/2 cups (3/4 cup) sugar

Cake: Mix all ingrediedients. Pour into greased and floured 8" layer pans. Bake at 350* for approx.
25 min. Cool cake. Filling: Beat egg whites until frothy, not stiff. Add buttermilk, coconut, and sugar.
Mix well. Put between layers and on top. Let set in refrigerator for a couple of days before serving.
Mixture makes 6 layers. To make 1/2 mixture use amounts listed in parenthesis.
