Mandarin Orange Muffins

Mandarin Orange Muffins
11 ounces mandarin orange
sections, drained
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup vegetable shortening
1 beaten egg
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Spread orange segments on a paper towel to drain. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, allspice, and 1/2 cup sugar. Cut in the shortening, until it resembles a fine grain. Combine the egg and milk-mix well. Add to the flour mixture-mix just until well moistened. Add orange segments-mix gently. Spoon into a greased muffin tin, filling about two-thirds full. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven. Combine cinnamon with remaining 1/4 cup sugar. Roll tops of hot muffins in cinnnamon mixture. Serve warm or at room temperature.
